It's an amazing machine, it has the ability to identify the type of phone you have, whether it works or not, and give you the market value for the phone immediately in cash!
The machine will let you know all of these things, and if you find the price favorable to you, you can take the money, or it also gives you other options: you can get coupons for trade-ups, donate the money to charity, or get gift cards. If you don't like the price or the offer, you can choose to get your old cell phone back.
The ecoATM also has other functions. It also performs services for cell phones such as data erasing, data transferring, unlocking, bill paying, and phone activation.
The amazing thing to me about the ecoATM is that whenever it offers you prices for your phone, it analyzes the market in real time to get you the most accurate price possible.
Check out ecoATM's website at www.ecoatm.com to find out all the ins and outs. EcoATM has just surfaced in the west coast. As usual, they are ahead of us here in the midwest, but wait! There is an ecoATM in KANSAS CITY! It is located at the Nebraska Furniture Mart on Village
West Parkway. Check it out if you can, because it is pretty cool.
What do you think about the ecoATM? Would people really go to an ATM machine to deposit phones? What are the best AND worst parts about the ecoATM?

Is there a safeguard to keep people from turning in stolen phones for money?
ReplyDeleteGreat question, Gentry! I thought of that myself but after looking on ecoATM's site, I found several features that should keep this from happening. The most simple ones are ID's like driver's license, address, or credit card info. There are also more in depth features such as digital signature and fingerprints. Also, there is a camera on all ecoATMs so if someone does steal your phone and cash it in, there will be video of them, plus all their information as well as all the phone's info.

I think the idea is brilliant! But Gentry's question is quite the concern. The information Ben has presented though makes it sound quite promising. I think having such a thing can be helpful in many ways. It can be helpful in recycling old phones, lets people get reimbursed instantly, and if phones stolen, it seems as though it wouldn't be hard to get returned!
